Question: Why do I need a viability ultrasound?

An early ultrasound can confirm your pregnancy is progressing normally inside the uterus. This assurance may be very important for women who are experiencing pain or bleeding in the pregnancy and those who have had previous miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies.

When is viability ultrasound done?

During this visit, an ultrasound is frequently done to confirm early pregnancy. But an ultrasound doesnt immediately show what women might expect. Its typically not until a woman is six weeks pregnant that any part of the fetus is visible, which allows the doctor to determine whether a pregnancy will be viable.
