Review Summary This is not to say its not a good plane because it is. The blade was surprisingly sharp out of the box, the sole very flat and the sides were at 90 degrees (which is good because this is a good plane for shooting). The aluminum cap is a bit cheap feeling but has worked OK so far.

I then bought a new Stanley block plane and had the same experience. Dont get me wrong, the Nielsen planes are great, well built planes, but for everyday block plane use, the Stanley is the one I reach for most of the time. It just feels great in my hand and consistently does a great job.
