Still, if each site had just one person use each feed, thats 20 million people using RSS. Anytime 20 million people use anything, that things existence is far from dead.
Is it still used online? Yes and no. RSS feeds are certainly still present (more on this later), but they arent as dominant as they once were. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others have become the go-to option for following sites, watching feeds, and learning about the latest content.
Today, RSS is not dead. Social networks, just like RSS, provide a feed featuring all the latest news on the internet. Social networks took over from RSS because they were simply better feeds. They also provide more benefits to the companies that own them.
Google News will be deprecating their old RSS feed subscription URLs by December 1, 2017. That means if you have Google News RSS feed subscriptions from a year or so ago, you will need to go through all those subscriptions and update them. As a result of this update, the Google News RSS URL pattern is changing.”
That being said, RSS feeds have largely been replaced by simply joining the email list of the bloggers, brands or publications you want to hear from.
